Penhold is proud to offer welcoming outdoor spaces where families and children can play, explore, and stay active. The community is home to three playgrounds with play structures located at Hawkridge Park, Windsor Street Park, and Critters Corner.
These playgrounds provide fun and engaging environments where children of all ages can climb, explore, and connect with others while enjoying the outdoors.
In addition to playgrounds, Penhold features a variety of green spaces and athletic parks throughout the community. These areas include baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, disc golf courses, an All Wheel Skate Park, open green spaces, and connected walking trails, offering residents and visitors many ways to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.
Together, these spaces support healthy, active lifestyles and provide welcoming places for families, friends, and neighbours to gather and enjoy time outside.
Critters Corner Inclusive Playground
Critters Corner in Penhold is a fully accessible, community-built playground designed so children of all abilities can play, explore, and connect. With inclusive play features and thoughtful design, it has become one of the community’s most welcoming family recreation spaces.
History & Development
Critters Corner was brought to life through the leadership and dedication of the Penhold Community Leader’s Society, who championed the vision of creating an inclusive playground and organized a community-wide effort to build it.
Construction was completed in 2019 as a true community project:
The Town prepared the site
The Penhold Community Leader’s Society coordinated the build
Community volunteers assisted with installation alongside professional playground installers
This collaboration created a safe, accessible play space that reflects Penhold’s commitment to inclusion and family-friendly recreation.
In 2024, the Society donated funds for new park furniture and planted a variety of fruit trees to enhance the park’s landscape and natural environment.
