The Town of Penhold is excited to celebrate the completion of a major community greening project made possible by a $175,000 grant, stay tuned for upcoming official announcement. We have successfully completed a major community greening project in 2025. This funding allowed us to plant 114 new trees and 142 new shrubs, creating greener, more welcoming spaces for residents and visitors.
As part of the $175,000 community greening project, the Town of Penhold has planted a variety of fruit trees and berry shrubs across key community sites. These plantings not only enhance the beauty of our spaces but also provide opportunities for residents to enjoy fresh fruit and local berries.
Water Truck Purchase
To ensure these new plantings thrive, part of the grant funding was used to purchase a water truck. This equipment will support the ongoing healthy growth of both new and existing vegetation by making it easier to provide consistent watering. Penhold also incorporates sustainable practices such as capturing water from the arena and using a rainwater catchment system at Lincoln Street Recreation Centre to help maintain the town’s green spaces responsibly and effectively.
Thank You to Appollo Landscaping
The Town of Penhold would like to extend a sincere thank you to Appollo Landscaping for their continued support and partnership throughout this project. Appollo Landscaping not only provided site preparation and maintenance, but also completed the planting of all new trees and shrubs across our four project sites.
Their expertise, reliability, and dedication were instrumental in bringing this initiative to life. We are grateful for their hard work and ongoing commitment to helping Penhold grow a healthier, greener, and more beautiful community.
The plantings were completed at the following sites:
- Penhold Commons – enhancing the central community gathering space with new trees and shrubs.
- Critters Corner – creating a greener and more welcoming area for families and local wildlife.
- Future Dog Park – preparing the space with shade and shelter for pets and visitors.

Penhold Commons
Tree Grant Enhancements at Penhold Commons
Through the support of a grant, Penhold Commons received a significant environmental enhancement as part of the 2025 tree-planting project. In this area alone, we were able to plant 41 new trees and 39 shrubs, adding a diverse mix of species to strengthen the local landscape.
This includes four different types of trees and five varieties of shrubs, such as the popular saskatoon berry shrubs, which provide both ecological value and seasonal interest. These plantings will continue to grow into a healthy, vibrant green space that benefits the entire community for years to come.
Critter's Corner
About Critters Corner
Critters Corner is an inclusive community park built by the Penhold Community Leaders Society. With a large playground, trail network, disc golf course, and a well-loved toboggan hill, it continues to be a vibrant recreational hub for residents of all ages.
Tree Grant Enhancements at Critters Corner
Through the support of a grant, we were able to add 31 new trees and 37 shrubs, including saskatoon berry shrubs and pear trees. These new plantings help make Critters Corner even more community-friendly, creating natural shade, seasonal colour, and inviting green spaces that support play, relaxation, and outdoor learning.
This shared public space now offers an even richer experience for local families, youth clubs, and nearby schools, giving children and residents a safe, vibrant outdoor environment to explore, enjoy, and connect with nature throughout the year.
Waskasoo Ave
About Waskasoo Avenue
Waskasoo Avenue is the main roadway running through Penhold, connecting residents to key community spaces and amenities. It is lined with walking paths and surrounded by recreational areas, including ball diamonds, soccer pitches, two schools, and the community all-wheel park. This busy corridor is one of Penhold’s most active zones, welcoming daily foot traffic, families, students, and visitors year-round.
Tree Grant Enhancements along Waskasoo Avenue
Through the support of a grant, we enhanced this important community route with 19 new trees and 27 shrubs. These additions provide valuable shade for spectators and park users, help cool the area during warmer seasons, and contribute to an overall sense of safety and comfort. The new greenery also adds beauty and vibrancy, making Waskasoo Avenue even more enjoyable for everyone who travels, plays, or walks along it.
Dog Park
About the future dog park site
In 2024, Penhold Town Council allocated land for the project and was pleased to announce Appollo Landscaping Inc. had approached the town offering to donate time and landscaping at the Dog Park. We are excited for this partnership and look forward to the construction of a long-awaited amenity in Penhold. The dog park will be located on Waskasoo Ave, north of HWY 42 near the new Town of Penhold Public Services Building.
As part of a grant, 23 new trees and 39 shrubs were planted at the future Penhold Dog Park site. These plantings are designed to create a welcoming, vibrant space providing shade, natural beauty, and an inviting environment for people and their dogs to enjoy. Over time, the trees and shrubs will help enhance the park's overall atmosphere, contributing to a safe, comfortable, and connected outdoor area for residents and visitors alike.
