Garbage & Recycling Collection Day Map

Residential pickup monthly: $22.00

2nd tote pick up monthly: $13.00

Garbage/recycle tote (additional or replacement): $75.00

If your garbage / recycling is missed being collected on your scheduled collection day, please contact Empringham Disposal directly at 403-392-3870.

Spring Clean-Up is held annually at the end of May.

The Town of Penhold collects your garbage weekly and your recycling biweekly using a private contractor, Empringham Disposal.

The nearest Waste Transfer Facility is the Horn Hill Waste Transfer located east of Penhold on Highway 42.

Yard Waste Bins are available for resident use seasonally (May to October). Bins are located north of Highway 42 off Waskasoo Ave. Yard waste bins have opened for the season as of May 10, 2025.

Yard Waste Bin Reminders:
1.) NO DUMPING OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS OR GARBAGE
2.) Load yard waste containers from the back to the front, don’t just dump your yard waste at the opening.
3.) Grass clippings and leaves only in the compost bin. (NO BAGS, NO ANIMAL FECES)
4.) Branches less than 1” in diameter and shorter than 4’ in length in branch bin. (NO STUMPS, FIREWOOD, LUMBER ETC)

The Yard Waste Bins are available May through October and are located north of Highway 42 on Waskasoo Avenue for resident use disposing of household yard waste.

PLEASE help keep this area clean by making sure you empty your yard waste into the bins and use garbage cans provided for any bags you need to dispose of. There are no bags of any sort permitted in the yard waste containers.

Acceptable items are:

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Branches - must be shorter than 4' and smaller than 1" in diameter

Unacceptable items are:

  • Bags of any sort, including paper yard waste bags
  • Tree stumps or large branches
  • Sod
  • Apples or other fruit / produce
  • Garbage of any sort
  • Animal feces

The 2025 Spring Clean-Up will be held May 23 - June 2, 2025

Bins will be located NORTH OF HWY 42 by the future Public Services Building site on Waskasoo Ave. 

Important Reminders:

  • Site will be open 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily (site closes on Sundays once the bins are full)
  • Only 1 vehicle allowed in site at a time
  • It is resident's responsibility to bring unwanted items to bins
  • Designated areas for tires, propane bottles & batteries
  • NO  cement, rebar, oils, paints, antifreeze or chemicals of any kind.
  • $25 disposal fee per appliance for all appliances.*

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Residents MUST call public works at 403-886-3282 to advise you are bringing an appliance BEFORE arriving at site. Disposal fee of $25 per appliance that holds Freon must be paid in advance. Proof of payment will be required in order to drop off appliances that hold Freon at disposal site.
