Celebrating a Greener Penhold
The Town of Penhold is excited to celebrate the completion of a major community greening project made possible by a $175,000 Growing Canada’s Community Canopies (GCCC) grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Government of Canada.
Through this funding, 114 new trees and 142 shrubs were planted in 2025 to create greener, more welcoming spaces for residents and visitors. Plantings were completed at the following locations:
- Penhold Commons – Enhancing the town’s central gathering space
- Critters Corner – Creating a greener and more welcoming environment for families and local wildlife
- Future Dog Park – Adding shade, shelter and comfort for pets and visitors
- Waskasoo Avenue – Improving the streetscape with vibrant greenery
Fruit Trees & Berry Shrubs
As part of the project, a variety of fruit trees and berry shrubs were planted throughout the community. These plantings enhance local beauty while offering opportunities for residents to enjoy fresh, locally grown fruit.
Supporting Long-Term Growth
To help ensure the success of these new plantings, grant funding was also used to purchase a water truck. This equipment supports consistent watering for both new and existing vegetation. Penhold further incorporates sustainable practices by capturing and using rainwater through a rainwater catchment system, helping care for green spaces responsibly.
