About the Stormwater Pond
The pond at Penhold Commons is a stormwater management pond, an important part of the Town's infrastructure. Stormwater ponds collect rainwater and snowmelt runoff, helping to reduce flooding, improve water quality and protect the surrounding environment.
Although it offers beautiful views and recreational opportunities, the pond is not intended for swimming or wading.
To help maintain water quality and support the health of the pond, an aeration system operates throughout the open-water season. The aeration system circulates oxygen through the water, helping to improve water quality and create a healthier aquatic environment.

Aeration System
The Town of Penhold has installed a bottom-diffused aeration system in the recreational stormwater pond to help maintain good water quality and support safe recreational use.
Stormwater ponds collect runoff from roads, roofs, and other surfaces throughout the community. This water often contains nutrients and organic material that can accumulate in the pond over time. Without circulation and oxygen, these nutrients can contribute to algae growth, unpleasant odours, and declining water quality.
The aeration system helps prevent these problems by continuously circulating and oxygenating the water.
Winter Use
The dock will be remaining in the water over the winter. It dock is designed to rise up with the ice as it freezes.
No Ice fishing in the winter. Fishing only permitted during spring, summer and fall when safe to do so.
Stay off ice!
