Playgrounds & Parks

The Hawkridge Boulevard Park is located on the North side of Hawkridge Boulevard. The park consists of green spaces, a walking path and a large playground.

25 years ago the Penhold & District Lions Club put a playground in this area. The Sprecher Family donated the land for this playground. In 2011, a committee was formed with Penhold FCSS and Penhold & District Optimist Club to put in a new playground. With donations from Penhold & District Lions Club, Penhold & District Optimist Club, and through various fundraisers the equipment was purchased.

Public Works removed the old equipment and dug out the area. The pea gravel and wood was donated. The Optimist Clubs and volunteers put the equipment in in the Spring of 2012. With a grant from Red Deer & District Foundation, Penhold & District Optimist Club, Penhold Healthy Living Team, and with various other fundraisers, we were able to purchase three pieces of equipment. The equipment was installed in 2012.

Hayter Street park is located directly behind Hayter Street. This is a very large green space ideal for picnics, soccer, or even a modified game of baseball.

Tranquility Park is located between 88 Robinson Avenue and Hwy 2A.

As there is no cemetery in the Town of Penhold, an idea of a Memorial Park came about.

In 2005, planning for Tranquility Park began and a committee was formed. The focus of the park was to create a peaceful area in memory of loved ones who have passed on. Plans for the park included walking paths, a creek that would have a fountain within it, and a bridge that would cross over the creek. Trees, shrubs, benches, flag poles, time capsule and signage were other items discussed. The committee thought that trees, shrubbery and benches might be items that residents would like to donate to the park in memory of their loved ones. The committee also chose the name 'Tranquility Park'. The site chosen for the park is close to the reservoir as there is already power on site and it is adjacent to the highway through town.

The bridge steel work was donated anonymously for the enhancement of the park area. Donations were received for the bridge completion. A liner for the creek, trees, shrubs, a time capsule and a bench were graciously donated from residents. Grants have been received from Alberta Lotteries and Red Deer & District Foundation. The Penhold Lions Catering Group made a bench donation to the park. To date, the town has used grants and town funds to develop the creek with the water fountain, place and finish the bridge over the creek, and erect temporary signage. Some shrubbery has been placed at this time, with work ongoing. One shrub bed has been constructed and others will be added as the pathways are completed.

Purchase a tree or shrub in memory of your loved one and grow Tranquility Park. Included in your purchase is a memorial plaque. Trees are available for purchase in Tranquility Park for either $50/shrub or $250/tree. Call the Town Office at 403-886-4265 for more information or to purchase.
