About Penhold Neighbourhood Place

Penhold Neighbourhood place works to bring the community together to share ideas, discuss issues and implement solutions.  Penhold Neighbourhood place also makes it priority to share information about services, support, and opportunities in the community, region and province.  Penhold Neighbourhood place was established in August of 2000, one of 26 Neighbourhood places in Central Alberta, located in the Penhold Memorial Hall.

Penhold Neighbourhood place works hard at linking people to resources that will strengthen the social well-being of the community and its children.

Penhold Neighbourhood Place is coordinated by Ms. Tara Wells.

What Does Penhold Neighborhood Place Do?

  1. Facilitate community conversation:
Neighbourhood Place gives community members opportunities to talk about the issues and challenges we face, a chance to "have a voice" for change and share ideas. The Community Breakfast Forum is held several times per year and exists for this purpose. Community members are encouraged to come out and share "Hot Breakfast, Cool Ideas" (watch for dates and times in The Penhold Reporter or on signboards).

  1. Support new and existing initiatives that build community:
If a service or support exists in the community to meet identified community needs, Penhold Neighbourhood Place provides them with support through regular meetings to discuss new ideas and directions, raising community awareness, referral to their service, volunteer recruitment and sourcing out funding opportunities. If a service or support does NOT exist in Penhold, but citizens have enough passion to create it, Neighbourhood Place will assist in this process through hosting community meetings, identifying key players, pulling in resources and establishing necessary group structures.

  1. Operate as an information conduit to the community:
We have pamphlets, booklets and information on everything from career development to tourism. We support children and families by helping them access support services around the region. We compile and edit the monthly community newsletter, The Penhold Reporter. We have information on workshops, babysitters, community groups and events, projects and activities. Stop by the office to find out what's going on.

  1. Track and monitor community issues and trends:
Responding to a community's needs requires the leaders to have an understanding of what the hot issues and biggest challenges are. Penhold Neighbourhood Place maintains monthly statistics that help planners assess need and plan direction. This is why it is so important to hear, from community members, what these issues are. Your voice is important! Neighbourhood Place is here to engage the community, not only in speaking out about current issues, but also in finding and implementing unique and creative solutions at a grass roots level.
