Paying Online:

Please keep in mind that every bank except credit unions only accept 8 digits for an account number. Therefore, you need to take the Town of Penhold’s utility account number (found on top of your bill).  Remove the first zero and the last three zeros of this account number so that it is 8 digits long.

***Please note that your utility account and tax account have two different account numbers. Do NOT use your utility account to pay your taxes. Your tax account number can be found on your tax notices or please call the office and we can provide you with this information.

Each bank has different ways to set up billing payments, so if you are having problems adding Town of Penhold to your bank account you will need to contact your bank to get assistance with this issue as the Town will not have this information.

Utility Pre-Authorized Payment Plan

There is a pre-authorized payment plan for garbage, water and sewer utility bill. Once signed up for the program the amount owing will be automatically debited to your account. This payment would occur on the 10th of each month as this is the due date for utilities. To enroll please complete the ‘Utility Pre-Authorized Form’ and bring to Town Office along with a void cheque or direct deposit slip.

Once enrolled into the utility pre-authorized plan you will still receive the monthly utility bill so that you can keep a copy for your records and knowledge of the amount that will be withdrawn from your bank account on the 10th of each month.

Cancelling from the Utility Pre-Authorized Plan:

If you are moving or no longer wish to be in the program, please complete the cancellation form and hand in to Town Office 10 days prior to the 10th of each month to ensure that payment will NOT be processed through your bank account.

My Sewer Fee is Double My Water Charge?

Sewer charge is based on water consumption times $2.30, therefore it is double the fee. For example if you used 30 cubic meters of water your sewer charge will be $66.60.  If you are watering your grass, flowers or washing your vehicle you are being charged for sewer because the fee is based solely on water usage.

My Water Meter is Reading too High?

Please note that if you find that your water meter is reading high, please consider the following.  Meters are 99% accurate due to the fact that the gears in the meter are turned by the water flowing through your meter, therefore creating a very accurate reading system.

Many times high water can be attributed to certain things that have been overlooked; things such as filling a swimming pool, hot tub or Jacuzzi. With nicer weather, did you water your new sod, maintain your garden and flowers, wash your vehicles? Did company visit consequently using more volume of water? These things can add up causing your utility bill to be higher.

If your read is extremely high and you cannot account for the water usage it may be due to an invisible leak. How can you tell if you have a leak? First, find your meter.  It should be located in the furnace or mechanical room.  Once at the meter, lift the cover up and you will see a needle. If you have NO water running at the moment you inspect the meter, the needles should NOT be moving at all.  If the needle is moving slightly, somewhere in the house THERE IS A LEAK. The leak very well can be invisible. Most common leaks are toilets that are continually running and bathroom faucets dripping. It can also be your dishwasher or automatic ice maker.  At any rate, whatever the cause, if the needle is moving and no water is turned on, there is a leak somewhere in the house and the best course of action would be to hire a plumber to locate and repair the water leak in your home.
