Recruitment Info

Some of our members' reasons for joining:

  • It is a good way to meet people in the community.
  • I feel the need to give in your growing community.
  • There was a fire close to where I work.
  • The same level of training is available that full time firefighters receive. The difference is that as a volunteer it is spread out into part time modules that are paid for by the department.
  • A great way to meet people in the community.
  • Good training that may lead to a new career.
  • Paid part time.
  • The self satisfaction of helping others in the community.
  • Taking on a leadership role in the community.
  • Giving something back.
  • Enjoy helping people.
  • Protect family and friends' families.
  • Local heroes wanted.
  • Lived here for ten years, thought I'd check it out.
  • I thought it would take too much time - I was wrong. The knowledge and training is worth it. The time spent is helping keep the town safe.

Fire Team

Now Recruiting Men and Women!

Have you ever watched "Backdraft" or "Ladder 49" and dreamed of saving property and lives? Are you working full time and unable to make the change? Have you seen firsthand the destruction smoke and fire can wreak on a neighbour's life? You can make a difference in your community - and you can do it by only committing a few hours a month.

The Penhold Fire Department is now recruiting new members. Apply today!

What's in it for you?

gearYou can receive the full NFPA 1001 fire training course, make a huge difference in your community and even get paid for training and calls!

The Penhold Fire Department offers you the same training programs that full-time firefighters receive, but our program is broken down into part-time modules easily taken while working at your current job.

The courses are offered at no cost to you, you will even be paid for the time you spend working for the department!
Most of your new skills will transfer to different departments if you move to a new community. About 80 percent of Alberta’s firefighters are members of volunteer departments, with only 8 departments in the province composed of full-time staff.

During the modules of the NFPA 1001 courses you will have the opportunity to train at different Fire Departments in Central Alberta. It is a great way to meet other Fire Fighters and use different equipment and techniques.

Visit the NFPA website for more about the standards and training.

How Much Time will be required?

  • 24 hour on-call in case of an emergency
  • Training days every Wednesday of the month, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Fire Hall.
  • Weekend or weekday courses will be available
  • Occasional events like fundraising, pancake breakfasts and parades
  • It will take approximately 2-3 years of part time training to achieve full NFPA 1001 certification

So Who Are We Looking For?

gearWe need able-bodied men and women who are willing to train and become part of the team for when we are called upon. The emergency scenes have many tasks so even if you don't want to be a front line fire fighter, don't count yourself out.

Every job is important, and the rest of the team needs everyone to do their part. Just let us know what you can do to help. We appreciate everyone who is willing to lend us a hand.
